Drafting lapel facings
This is a video tip to show how I add turn of cloth to lapel facings so the lapel falls smoothly with no buckling underneath the lapel. It's a bit rough and ready because I'm working on a project but thought showing this could have some value.

Fine roll hem for sheers
Просмотров 322 тыс.3 месяца назад
This roll hem answers a question one of my students had when we were in the study collection at the Fashion Institute of Technology recently. P.S. TO THOSE WHO PRESUME TO COMMENT ON MY FINGERNAILS BEING TOO LONG DON'T. I use my nails when sewing. So stop it please.

Preparing pattern for fitting class
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.9 месяцев назад
This is how I like to prepare a pattern for making a muslin and fitting. White kraft paper or banner paper got from the office supply, copying only stitching lines and other details (NOT SEAM ALLOWANCES!). Other people do it other ways, but in fitting classes I teach, this is how I like it done. It's far easier for me to see alterations that go to stitching lines, as well as making sure seam le...

The Nervous Nellie Guide to Sewing Chiffon! Three classes; This is a zoom class, recorded so the students can refer to it later! I recently made a mother-of-the-groom outfit that required me to sew with chiffon. As chiffon strikes terror in my heart, I needed to devise some techniques that would make it a little easier for me to sew. In this class, we start with a pattern, included with the pri...

Episode 93: No Regrets, Just Gratitude
What kind of machine is it? Where to get it? Thank you
Have you made any videos (or do you have classes) on drafting a full shawl collar onto a boxy jacket. I am attempting to design and sew a quilted jacket in the style of Lady Lancaster's Aunt Ethel. I wonder if you have seen her work. Absolutely stunning garments.
I have drafting PDF books on my web site: kennethdking.com/books If you get Patternmaking 2, you will fins that information there. Available as download only.
@@kdknyc Thank you so much. I will look into it.
@@kdknyc For some reason your website does not come up. I will keep trying. It could be my end. We have been experiencing internet and phone issues.
Just subscribed. I have been sewing since 12. I have also done fashion désigne ( all self thought) This is the best tutorials, i have ever seen. Knowing is not enough, you have to be able to convay what you know properley so your students can benefit. I can tell you are a great artist and a great teacher. Wish you success❤🎉🎉🎉
Great piece,, but toooo much work.
It's not for everybody. But if you want to make something the caliber of a Chanel dress, you know how.
You made it seem easy! Thanks. Going to give it a good attempt.
It's just practice!
Wooow 😮😵 ❤all I can say is THIS IS PHENOMENAL and unbelievable neat work!! Very stressful and tedious cutting involved 😖🫣 but the result is Unbelievable Quality!! Thank you for sharing this unbelievable beautiful concept ❤
Why I didn’t know this before 😢 thank you so much for the sharing content with us 🙏🍀👍
Omgoodness!! I love this…. ❤
Hallo! I am new here. Wonderful work! May i kindly ask you, what is your iron and sewing machine? 🙏 I love such an old fashion stuff. ❤
My sewing machine is the Bernina 1260, the iron is the Reliable brand 500i.
@@kdknyc Wow i got already an answer!!! 🙏 Thank you very much. I appreciate it ❤️
I am So grateful for your excellent tutorial! I am hemming a wedding dress for my daughter. This is the layer of fabric on her dress I was struggling to understand how to finish. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Thanks so much. Question: I have heard that water and steam are bad for silk fabric, and that you should try not to iron them. Is that true? I noticed you pressed it with steam. Perhaps the organza is a little more sturdy? My iron has a silk setting but I would never iron silk unless someone I trusted told me it was okay 😂
Silk is a protein fiber so can take water and pressing. There are certain kinds of silk fabric that do better with a dry iron, such as silk satin, gazar, or tafetta. The key is to test the fabric with pressing before you begin your project. If you use the silk setting on your iron you will be fine.
@@kdknyc Thank you!!
Thanks so much for this great video! I can’t wait to try this technique. You’re a great teacher.
Thank you.
Fantastic, helpful tutorial. 👍Thank you.
Excellent tutorial, and with my current fabrics I was given I’m sure I’ll give it a try.
She was probably taking notes on your pants to steal your design. I’m a collector of vintage garments and she’s copied many original design
@@jbak485 She did use the idea of dead celebrities in a collection.
This is amazing! Thank you!!!
I also use erasable frixion markers for pattern drawing on fabric! This is a state of the art tutorial on high end finishings clean and beautiful as they did back in the day thanks!🙏🏽🙏🏿🙏🏼🙏🏾
Wow. Thank you so much. So glad I found you from the south of England 😊
Great help on a project! Thank you!
🪄🧵🪡✨💨
Purpose of doing it twice? Please. And have you hurt your hands with machine needles or some other carpenter ‘s tools? Thanks for showing this process.🙏
The second time reinforces the roll of the fabric and keeps the hem from falling off the edge. And yes, as someone who works with my hands for a living, I sometimes injure my hands.
Excellent tutorial!! This will be so helping when doing altealrations for gowns. Thank you!
Oh thank you good teacher
Lovely, will be making a petite shrug for a dress, and I was not certain how to do this your video is Excellent! So Happy I found your channel. Thank you for your extremely well thought out guidance for this particular sewing....
🙏
Excellent tutorials 👏👏👏👍
Thanks!
Super clear instructions thank you! My cheap clothing will have a designer upgrade
Oh my.. why am i only seeing this now!!!??? 😍😍
This was really a great tutorial. As a beginner sewer I feel confident and ready to try this!
I'm adding my thanks for an excellent video. Really well done. I'm going to do a search of your videos for one that tells me how to adjust the machine tension so it won't "eat" flimsy china silk. If it does exist thank you, if not Please?
@@brigitspins Sew it with paper pinned underneath. Thin machine needle size 90/7, stitch length 2.5mm. You tear the paper away after sewing.
@@kdknyc Thank you, so you do not adjust the tension? I was told by the folks I bought the machine from to adjust tension both upper and lower. Which seemed a touch overboard to me. I have used paper before but did think about getting tear-away that irons loosely to the fabric. Do you have an opinion on that? Again; I very much appreciate your videos. Nice work
What a great tutorial! I've been sewing for 70 years and have had difficulty with fine fabrics like this. Thank you so much!
Thanks for this! It was really nicely explained and to the point. I was just making myself a waistcoat with a collar these past few days, and managed to figure out the favouring (though I didn't know the word for it) and next time I'll know how to account for the turn of cloth too! :)
Turn of cloth isn't talked about that much but is so important, especially to make lapels and collars lie flat and smooth. This tip I discovered while experimenting, and it works like a charm.
Thank you so much! You explained this so clearly that I understood everything first time 😂. It makes so much sense!
Absolutely superb. A privilege to see such a beautiful collection I adore Kenneth
Thank you! The model, named Loretta, was my favorite of all the models I ever worked with. Polished, soignee, beautiful, and a lovely woman.
This is an AMAZING VIDEO! Thank you so much for sharing this. I love to see couture work and I always am amazed at the quality and depth of detail that goes into to creating these masterpieces. There is a reason they are capable of last decades and decades.
Hello , Precise and well explained. I would like to know the brand of your iron if possible. Amy
It is the Reliable brand 50001. An excellent steam generator iron. (And I bought it myself instead of it being gifted for exposure.)
Perfeito! 😍👏👍/Brasil
Genius!
Have to admit, I've tired this type of edge before with very little success. Your tutorial is VERY good and I'll try it again with this new knowledge. Thank you!
Thank you so much ❤ I've been looking everywhere for something like this. Making a chiffon scarf and double folding hemming it just wouldn't look as nice for the look im going for ❤
Thank you so much for this video. I've been wondering how to get a hem like this for my doll clothes. I would love to know what iron you are using.
Excelente
Love how you explain the step by step perfectly. ❤ thank you
